Flax


The oldest Georgian crop

Flax is cultivated for two purposes: oil and fibre production

Oil-bearing flax was cultivated in Samtskhe-Javakheti province

Flax oil is used in food production, medicine, and perfumery

Flax straw produces fiber used in manufacturing of quality fabrics

Besides, its straw is used for production of cardboard, alcohol, acetic acid, acetone

Flax is a wasteless crop

Oil-bearing flax is sawn in early spring

Is harvested as soon as the pods ripen

Yield – 0.6-1.3 ton/ha
